Boo save Jem’s life when Bob Ewell tried to kill Jem. “Scout led Boo to pat Jem and held her hands and told her he wants to go home” (page 372). This shows Boo didn’t want Scout to know that he killed Bob. Another Example is that Boo did not just killed Bob he was also trying to protect Jem and Scout during the night. “Mr. Ewell fell on his knife and died” (page 370).…

I am reading the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. In the chapters sixteen through chapter twenty-three, Scout, Jem and Dill watch the trial of Tom Robinson, who was accused of raping Bob Ewell’s eldest daughter. Atticus, the defendant of Tom Robinson, lost the trial and Tom was brought to prison, where he attempted to escape, but was shot and killed. Although Tom was innocent, and Atticus proved that he was in the trial, the fact that he was a black man outweighed the fact that Bob Ewell was the one that beat Mayella, the victim of the supposed rape and the evidential beating. In this journal, I will be characterizing Tom Robinson and analyzing why Bob Ewell lied about his daughter’s attack.…

Consequently, when Heck Tate sees that Boo killed Bob Ewell, he knows that it will not go well for the recluse. In, “To my way of thinkin’, Mr. Finch, taking the one man who’s done you and this town a great service an’ draggin’ him with his shy ways into the limelight–that’s a sin,” Heck explains that since Boo did the community a favor by killing Ewell, he should not be punished by being made to go to court (Lee 369-370). Boo is secure living inside the Radley house in obscurity, and the notoriety that comes with a murder trial would force him out of his comfort zone in more ways than one. Moreover, Scout feels secure in the neighborhood in which she grows up. Whenever there is trouble, Scout easily finds someone to help her on her street.…

InTo Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee Atticus creates many opportunities for jem to read to Mrs. Dubose. This is a good thing because Jem deserves this punishment for what he has done. First Jem deserves this because he lost his temper and destroyed Mrs. Dubose’s flowers when he shouldn't have . Jem got so much money for his 12th birthday, Scout and Jem went into town to buy a train set and a baton. On their way there causing Mrs. Dubose to make some harmful comments about their family when Jem and Scout came back from town Jem was still mad when they “had just come on her gate when Jem snatched my baton and ran flailing wildly up the steps into Mrs. Dubose’s front yard, forgetting everything Atticus has said, forgetting that she packed…

Atticus shows his manner and respect for Mr. Radley when Scout refers to him as Boo and Atticus replies to her saying, “”Mr. Arthur, Honey,” said Atticus, gently correcting me” (Lee 363). Atticus shows his manners and respect for Boo right here by the way he makes Scout call him Mr. Arthur. Even though Boo is an outcast in the community, and is rarely out of his house and social with the Finch family, he still respects Boo enough to call him Mr. Arthur. Boo, the one who saved Jem and Scout as they were getting attacked by Mr. Ewell, “saved” them by returning the children back to Atticus. Atticus respects him not only for protecting his children, but because he is a human and Atticus grew up respecting everyone and using his manners.…

One of these mockingbirds is forced to meet his maker, another is forced is forced to kill, and the last mockingbird’s innocence is forced to slowly die.…

Jem, in many ways, is your average young teen. He has a father who he looks up to and a younger sister he is very protective of. He wants to follow in his father’s footsteps, but like all teens acts out and exclaims, “I wanted to be a lawyer, but I ain’t so sure now” (66) when arguing with his father, a statement he will most likely retract. I know this because I have been there. Just like I’ve lied to my sister to make a situation seem better, similar to Jem, “Miss Caroline’s introducing a new way of teaching.…
