The story takes place in the ‘30s in Maycomb, Alabama. The kids Scouts and Jem Finch are very curious about their neighbour Boo Radley about which they’ve heard many stories. They want to try and see what he looks like. And then Scout starts in school and hears that her father, Atticus, is defending a black man, who has to go to court for the rape of a white lady in the town. During the trial Attacus has proven that Tom Robinson, the black man, is indeed innocent but because the jury is filled with all whites Tom is seen as guilty. When Tom is brought to safety, he escapes and is shot dead.
