Many parts of the book point out Jems bravery and courage. One of which is when he ran back to the Radley's house for his pants, which were to his surprise, folded neatly over the fence. Jem has multiple moments of bravery throughout the book. Another good time of bravery for Jem is when he was with Scout walking through the woods and they were attacked. However, this clearly changes in the novel. Jem ages from 10 to 13 throughout the course of the novel which gives him time to experience life and to understand more things an everyday person does. When Atticus shot the “mad dog” Jem learned that even if you don’t exactly know what you're doing, you should always take a shot at whatever it is you're doing and make the best out of it. Atticus was brave to try and shoot the dog even after he states he hasn’t shot a gun in years as this quote from Chapter Ten says, "For God's sake, Mr. Finch, look where he is!
