Jelly Roll Morton was born in October on the 20th in 1890. His real name is Ferdinand Joseph Lamothe. He started his career in New Orleans, louisiana. His parents are racially blended creole parents. He is a blend of African,French,and Spanish. He learned to play piano at about age 10. He started playing at the red light district bordello's, and that's where he earned the nickname Jelly Roll. He mixed ragtime styles and and minstrelsy dance styles which would later be called Jazz. He left home at a young age and he made money as a musician,vaudeville comic,gambler and a pimp.
