Jell-O Experiment

Improved Essays
The purpose of this experiment was to identify what the effect type of fruit had on the consistency of Jell-O. The Jell-O with apple slices in it had the hardest consistency, and the pennies dropped into the Jell-O/apple mixture dropped an average of .07 inches into the container. The pennies in the mango and Jell-O mixture dropped in an average of 1.1875 inches in, and the pennies dropped an average of 1.4875 inches into the pineapple and Jell-O mixture, meaning the apples and Jell-O solution’s pennies sunk in the least. The penny was not able to break through the surface as much because the solution had a tougher consistency than the pineapple Jell-O solution and the mango Jell-O solution. Based on the data collected in this lab, it can be concluded that double-stuffed Oreos do not contain double the amount of filling as regular Oreos. In the experiment, the mass and height of each entire Oreo was measured and recorded. Then, the cookie was split apart and the cream filling was scraped off. The remaining Oreo components, the two cookie pieces, were measured for mass and height again. By subtracting the cookie measurements from the Oreo measurements, we found the height and mass of the cream fillings, which we then averaged.…

An experiment was carried out to determine the percent of 100 percent cranberry juice in cranberry apple juice. This experiment is significant in everyday chemistry because it is the job of many chemists, in regulatory agencies such as the FDA, to quantitatively determine if the ingredients listed on the label of a substance are actually in that substance. Cranberry juice has particular qualities that are not found in other juices. The quality studied in this experiment was color. Cranberry apple juice is a mixture, but, because it is said to contain cranberry juice, it should also have some of the same unique identifying quality, color, that cranberry juice has.…

Introduction: For this lab, the two main topics are surface tension and pennies. Pennies are a part of the US currency, which holds a value of one cent. They were mostly made by copper until 1982 when the government realized the expenses of using copper; thus, the composition was changed to 97.5% zinc and 2.5% copper or copper plated zinc. It has a diameter of 19.05 mm and a thickness of 1.52 mm and is forged using four procedures: Blanking, Annealing, Upsetting, and Striking. The design of the penny holds two alternative sides (heads or tails) which has a picture of Abraham Lincoln engraved on one end and a variety of pictures engraved on the other end (usually the white house).…

Does the type of liquid affect how fast an ice cube melts? Does the type of liquid affect how fast an ice cube melts? In an experiment (not ours) involving three liquids, pop melted the ice within it the fastest out of the three. Molecules cause ice to melt in a pretty simple way. When salt is thrown on snow or ice, it prevents the ice or snow from freezing over once again.…

The data from Table 1.1 provides a measurement of how hard the Jell-O gets when fruit is not added and when different types of fruit are added: pineapples, mangoes and apples. The deeper the coin drops into the Jell-O, the less hardened the Jell-O is. The control, no fruit, hardened the most, which is shown in the table because the coin could not break the surface of the Jell-O, so it did not sink into the Jell-O at all. The coin sank into the Jell-O with the added pineapple. The coin dropped an average of 1.49 inches into the pineapple Jell-O, the most out of all of the averages.…

Did you know that Jell-O has been a part of American culture for over a century? Jell-O, a dessert made from prepared powder, is something that we, humans, eat everyday. To keep a solidify figure, the Jell-O requires gelatin as a part of its ingredients. For my experiment, I will be determining whether certain enzymes in fruits prevent gelatin from the process of solidification, and if there’s a way to still include these fruits without ruining the dessert. The research question of the project is: “Which or what fruits won’t be capable of being used in a gelatin dessert and why?”…
