Following, Jekyll quotes “ The pleasures which I have made haste to seek in my disguise were, as I have said, undignified.” (66) It is obvious by the words of Dr. Jekyll that he, like anyone else would be addicted to tobacco, was addicted to the pleasure of being Hyde. He knew they were wrong but the couldn't handle the temptation. After, The Novel claims about Jekyll towards the middle of the story “The rosey man had grown pale;his flesh had fallen away; he was visibly balder and older” (32) This is proof from the text that Hyde continues to overpower the good in Jekyll and no longer can he stay sane.
