Jehovah's Witness Observation

I wanted to research Jehovah’s Witness in the classroom because back home, we have a Jehovah’s Witness church in the community. Many of the church members’ children attend the public school in the town. In the school, the students don’t participate in some of the class activities based on their religion. By researching, I hope to understand how to handle students who won’t participate in some of the classroom activities because of their religion.

Going into the research, I knew that Jehovah's Witness children in school didn't participate in certain activities based on their religion. I had even see a little girl not say the Pledge of Allegiance, and wondered why until the teacher told me. Also my freshman year, I was part of the Show Choir, and one of the members didn't participate in the Christmas program because of her beliefs. In wanting to learn more, I focused on what activities Jehovah's Witness students didn't participate in, and wanted to know how I could handle the situation if I ever happen to have a Jehovah's Witness student in my class.

I first began by just looking for websites to use. Many of the websites where discussion boards or blogs with teachers asked for advice on handling Jehovah's Witness students. Because of this it helped narrow down the site I could use. Then, I gather information for the website I gathered. Through my research, I also found a documentary that followed the live of a Jehovah's Witness children. This documentary was very helpful in my research. Also through my research, I was lead to an article of a teacher over stepping the bounds to my a Jehovah's Witness participate in the class, but also many more cases of teacher accepting their students beliefs and how they handled the
