Jeff's Resistance To Lisa Film Analysis

Improved Essays
Lisa slowly and steadily comes to represent a stereotypical middle class woman in the 1950s. There were two options for Jeff- either get married and be content with his present adventurous life in “combat boots and a three day bread” or he can look “handsome and successful in a dark blue flannel suit.” (qtd in Keith 4). Jeff feels that Lisa cannot accommodate herself in his world and be happy with “fish heads and rice” and he cannot either be happy in a domestic life where he himself will be unhappy “rushing home to a hot apartment every night to listen to the automatic laundry, the electric dishwasher, the garbage disposal and a nagging wife” (qtd from the film). Jeff’s resistance to Lisa is rooted not only in larger issues related to marriage

Both the film, High Noon, and the story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” share a very similar setting that affects the course of the stories. “Near a landmark of some kind-a tree or an outcropping of a rock-a man on a horseback awaits”(Foreman 288). This quote is trying to demonstrate how the closest object, feature of a landmark or town of Hadleyville is a tree, which goes to show how detached from society the setting of High Noon is. “His eyes made out the shadowy outlines of a palatial chateau: it was set on a high bluff, and on three sides of it cliffs dived down to where the sea licked greedy lips in the shadows,”(Connell 7). This quote, which is talking about the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” is saying that there is one chateau,…

This suspension shows Guys subconscious desire to change social class, and using Ann to do so. With Ann being an established, wealthy , and politically involved; Guy is subconsciously drawn to Ann and her social class. Alongside that is the fact that Guy’s relationship with Ann is far less than typical for 1950’s gender roles.
