It's a dangerous over-simplification to believe that some are innately ‘good’ while others are innately ‘evil’ or ‘bad.’ This is a misleading concept, ‘bad’ people commit crimes, and we should throw them away because there is no hope. We cage them and forget about them. This concept has also fuelled many wars and conflicts in history, and even in the present day. It makes people or groups they are affiliated with believe that they are fighting a just cause against an ‘evil’ and that once the ‘evil’ people have been killed they will be right and everything will be peaceful. It removes our social responsibility and individual accountability. It is easier to say Jeffrey Dahmer was born evil than ask the question of what did society due to help him. What processes and services were in place to help the abused and mentally ill. I am a good person, but not by chance or birthright. I have been raised my amazing parents that have taught be to be kind and compassionate to others. They have showed me love and protected me from the bad in the world. I have also taken personal responsibility of my actions to ensure I treat people the way in which I want to be treated. I am thankful for my environment, it is safe.
