Jeffrey Brown: A Serial Kidnapper

A knock at the door caused me to jump up, off the sofa, in confusion. I walked, quickly as possible, to the front. As I opened it a young officer greeted me causing my breath to catch in my throat. I didn’t believe I had done anything that would cause an officer to come to my home. The man smiled, a thin and uncomfortable smile, quickly and with slight hesitation explained his sudden appearance and pulled a small slip of paper from his back pocket. He then quickly introduced himself. The man’s name was Jeffrey Brown and described the suspicions of me being a serial kidnapper or even possible killer. “It’s should be fine as long as you are innocent, though,” he said quickly reassuringly. I was compelled to slam the door on his face. Not because …show more content…
He proceeded to step up the first set of stairs and walked into the guest room, not speaking. The man finally spoke, snapping me out of a daze, “Is there a reason the room is already prepared? I don’t mean to bug but it is quite odd.” “Well,” I began looking into the man’s eyes which looked very similarly to that of a crow’s, “I like to be prepared, I would rather not be caught off guard by a visitor.” “It’s nice to be ready so I don’t disturb the guest by getting it ready while they unpack.” The man checked under the bed and through to wardrobes, looking for anything that could. He was like a storm cloud. Somehow his presence darkened the room even while it was illuminated by a bright fire. “I don’t mean to be rude but you do realize there is nothing in this room, correct?” I questioned him, only to be ignored as he stepped …show more content…
A pot of tea sat brewing that I had previously forgotten about. Jeffrey walked to the teapot and pulled off the lid. He sniffed and let his nose scrunch up in disgust. “It smells like almonds,” he mentioned before looking at me, “Does this have anything besides tea in it?” I frowned and shook my head. “No, I brew it with almonds because I enjoy the flavor,” I then gestured to a large bag of almonds on the counter not too far away. He shrugged and to my surprise smiled, “Looks like you are innocent,” Jeffrey said in a voice similar to relief. “I’ll head back to the office if we need to do a second investigation we may but it appears you’re in the clear.” My facial expression emanated nothing but pure unadulterated happiness. Though the news excited me I knew I was fine. I had nothing to
