Part 1: In the reading there was a great deal of good information that I enjoyed reading. I have worked for a Fortune 500 Company before entering into the ministry. As I read the chapter I could see how many of the principles espoused throughout the reading worked in the real world. Until reading the assigned chapters, I never gave a lot of thought to the concept of dynamic of how the behavior of the individuals within the organization is influenced by the organization itself. The reading caused me to look back on my experience working with Square D Company. Griffin and Moorhead remind us; “For example, we can study individual behavior without explicitly considering the organization. But because the organization influences and is influenced by the individual, we cannot fully understand the individual’s behavior without learning something about the organization” (Griffin & Moorhead, 2014, p. 4). When observing the behavior of other people within the organizations I have been a part of. I am a minister of First Christian Church and motivating people is a key component to what we do in ministry. The various theories of motivation we informative to me. I learned about Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and have somewhat followed that theory in my ministry. I enjoyed examining the various other theories and in my view they all have a level of competence to them.
