Jeff Volm has had the pleasure of knowing Dawn Gibson for the past three months. They are classmates in the English Composition course at Gateway Technical College. In the short time they have known each other, Jeff knows Dawn is an outstanding student, mother and wife in all aspects. Dawn is hard working, dedicated, and has a bright future ahead of herself. As a teenager, Dawn attended William Horlick High School in Racine, Wisconsin. She comes from a large family of one brother and two sisters. At age seventeen Dawn was unable to finish high school after discovering she was pregnant. She had to make the difficult decision to drop out of high school in order to provide for her newborn baby. Due to this, Dawn unfortunately never returned to high school to earn her diploma. Dawn had been removed from school for several years and worked driving the Racine City Transit Bus. It was at age thirty-two Dawn’s “never give up” attitude gave her the courage to change her life and achieve her life dreams. She always knew she was meant for more in life. She enrolled at Gateway Technical college to earn her High School Equivalency Diploma. She successfully passed and realized “anything is possible.” Dawn’s confidence soared high and she chose to further her education. She is now currently enrolled in the Registered Nurse Program. She has been happily married to her husband Todd for ten years. They have been blessed with three children throughout these years. They are the proud parents of sixteen old Haley, thirteen old Lucas and six-year-old Talin. Together they enjoy quality family time doing activities like watching movies, bowling and family dining at restaurants. Dawn’s favorite movie is “Hope Floats”.
