1.0 Introduction
Jeffrey Preston Bezos, also known as Jeff Bezos is the founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Amazon.com. He was born at 12 January 1964 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His mother was Jacklyn Gise Jorgensen and his biological father was Ted Jorgensen. However, his parent were divorced and his mother married Mike Bezos, stepfather of Jeff Bezos. In his early life, he showed an early interest in computer technology. Therefore, he chose to study computer science and electrical engineering at Princeton University. After graduated, he worked on Wall Street and became vice president at investment firm, D.E Shaw. No great success is achieved without failure. It maybe one epic failure or repeating failures. In business perspective, Coelho and McClure (2005) define failure as firm’s inability to survive in market. Another researcher states that failure can be learning opportunities for leader like develop extra skill (Singh, 2011). Robert F. Kennedy (1966) quotes that “Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.” Leader will be able to grow, learn and ultimately succeed through learning from failure. This can be seen by Jeff Bezos. In 1998, Amazon sold various types of products include books, music and movies but then Bezos thought of transforming Amazon into “everything store”. After that, he decided to bring in toy market. He spent $120 million to buy toys from various manufacturers and stored them in warehouse. However, only half of toys were sold and $50 million leftover toys ended up to give to charities. After this failure, he learnt and adapted mistakes. Then, he found a way to sell toys on Amazon in which he partnered Toys “R” Us to sell products online without having to buy inventory. They will concern on their own rather than care about others. I am the person who always think about myself first, then only think about others. However, Jeff Bezos prioritize his customers compared to put Amazon at the first place when he making some plan regarding his business. This has made me realize that if we concern more about others including parents, friends and society, we will be more benefited compared to being selfish. From now, to become a person like Jeff Bezos, I will learn to care about others who is beside me. For example, looking after my parents and elders, being generous to help friends when they have difficulties, treat others like you want to be treated and being volunteer to help people in need. Besides, to become a successful leader, I will be willing to share my knowledge, information and skills to my followers in future. This is because sharing is caring and it will bring us happiness.
5.0 Conclusion
As a conclusion, every successful leader will have their own personality traits and qualities that will make people to admire and respect them. Jeff Bezos who is the leader I admire the most has his own leadership qualities too include learning from failure, long-term thinking, hardworking and caring. I will learn the qualities from him and I wish to become a leader like Jeff Bezos in
