Jeannine Burk Holocaust

During the holocaust, Jeannine Burk was one of the few survivors. She hid in a woman’s house for three years. Before all this happen, Jeannine’s neighbors snitched on her family and unfortunately, they took her dad. But they did not take her mother, her sister and Jeannine because her sister had osteomyelitis. The Gestapo's said they would come later for them, and a little while after her mother was able to make a call for the hospital. Because of the stereotype of how a Jew looked, they did not believe that Jeannine’s mother was a Jew base on her looks, so they let her become a practical nurse in the country. They would often wait for the return of their father, but he never came back. News eventually came to them reporting that the Nazi’s have gassed him in the gas chambers. Soon after, her mother died of breast cancer when Jeannine was ten. Later, Jeannine had to hide with a woman she didn't even know and she would like to thank her, but she had no idea where the woman lived. Afterwards she mentioned, “Why am I alive? “The Seventh Man” by Haruki Murakami is a short story about a boy who lost his best friend in a typhoon. By experiencing this horrible incident, the boy had to deal with survivor’s guilt for many years. From the text it stated, “I didn’t want to wake someone sleeping next to me with my screams in the middle of the night...the terror was in my bones.”(Murakami #141) Because of what the narrator witnessed, the horrible incident was buried in his mind and therefore was created into recurring nightmares. These nightmares also affect his relationships by ruining his chance of being able to marry someone. Just imagine having recurring nightmares every night and not being able to sleep well, that’s what a survivor has to go
