According to the book “Caring for Colony: The Story of Jeanne Mance”, she never cares about the race, enemies or allies. She takes everyone who is injured and she treats him or her. During her days in New France, the war was raging between the British and the Iroquois. It is there that “Jeanne made certain that the Hospitalieres treated everyone – colonist, First People, even Iroquois during their raids on the settlement” (Emmery p48). It shows that her only rule is to take care of everyone and to not leave anyone behind or let them die because of the war that is going on. She shows a great care for the ill and injured people, because of that belief; it is now the rule for the nurses to overthrow their own belief to provide the patient needs. It may change a nurses’ perspective about some topics about the patient’s beliefs, but it does not matter as long as the patient is well taken care of. Today as we interview the patients, it has to be neutral, non-judgmental, no racism and no accusations. We can only analyze and evaluate the data that we have to be able to know what the patients have. We also have to look at their behaviors because some patients do not tell the truth on why they are admitted at the hospital. We have to approach them very carefully because they feel scared or sometimes embarrassed. Providing good care and treating the patients with equal respect will lead to good communication between the patients and health providers. It also gives the patients a sense of security and knowing that they are not alone in the journey that they are going into. Being admitted to a hospital is a scary situation because no one knows what is going to happen; even the health providers are uncertain. They are there to provide the care that the patients need and allowing them to have a piece of mind that they are in a good hands.
