Jeanette Character Analysis

Jeanette is the protagonist. She is one of now 4 siblings. As of now, Jeanette and her family are living in an old train depot in the middle of the desert. There are several floors, so this house is very large in comparison to the other houses or shacks that they have lived in. Since the place was abandoned, there isn't much furniture in the house and they use box crates and such as chairs. The 4 kids all sleep in cardboard boxes on the floor, and they claim to enjoy it because it's an adventure. Jeanette is growing up, she spends most of her days collecting rocks on the desert floor, which she tries to sell for unreasonably high prices. Jeanette says that she’d rather make no money then sell them for less than they are worth. Which shows …show more content…
She has no idea when her family will be picked up and moved, or where they will end up, so she refrains from making any real friends since she could easily be packed up and leaving tomorrow. I believe since there aren’t defined rules in the household that Jean is accustomed, she loves being wild and playing without rules. She likes playing in the desert and looking at stars. She loves the earth because it’s the only steady thing in her life. It’s always there. Jeanette also loves food. Since she’s used to rare meals, or scraps, when she get’s a meal, she’ll gorge herself. She has been cooking since she was merely a baby, and has cared for herself a lot. She’s very tough in spirit and on the outside edges, but she’s still a little girl with emotions that she has to hide in order to live in harmony with her chaotic family. She feels this way because she loves her family, and fears them at the same time. She’s scared of her dad for his drunk fitful rages, and she’s scared of being scorned by her …show more content…
She has been through EVERYTHING. She is highly intelligent, and a small superhero. She has saved her siblings from raging fires, and been through a fire herself in which she was hurt badly, but handled it like nothing had happened. She spends her days as an environmental scientists, she studies rocks, bugs, amphibians, and studies plants. She collects samples that she believes to be beautiful and shares them with her scholarly, yet uneducated father. By night, she is an astronomer who studies constellations and stars. She is also the best big, and little sister. She looks out for everyone and shows people how tough that they can be. She also stands by the idea of family over everything else. She is confused and lost in the world that she walks, but she sure as hell makes the most of everything and is a
