Explanatory theories describe the relationship between the concepts, how they are connected, and explain why it is happening (Peterson, 2013). For example, Watson’s theory explains that when a nurse and a patient reach out and connect in a holistic way, a caring and trusting relationship is formed. The caritas process is a guide that explains ways to focus on the care of both physical and spiritual aspects (Lukose, 2011).
