Jean Vanier Research Paper

Throughout his life, Jean Vanier, has displayed virtues that not only focused on his relationship with God but his relationship with others as well. A Virtue is a habit that one creates or it is things that an individual says or does that will eventually lead them towards the good. As a result, Jean Vanier focused his entire life on obtaining that good. Vanier’s life was turned around when he visited a small chaplain for the handicapped. This is where he developed the virtue of prudence. Prudence is the ability to know and judge when one should speak up or remain silent. It is about using your morality in order to make good choices in life, rather than being impulsive. Vanier demonstrated prudence when he realized that he truly lives a blessed life that others can only imagine. Due to this oppression and suffering will stop, as we all will treat one another with love and respect. Thus, by having faith in God’s justice Vanier is promoting a fair world. Faith is complete trust and confidence in God. Vanier had faith when he never questioned God and his intentions. For instance, Jesus says, “Leave everything you have and follow me and give it to the poor.” He trusted that God helped him to make the best decisions in his life, which was to help the disabled and live amongst them, whereas others do not have complete faith in God. They see the disabled as a nuisance to their everyday life. His faith in God allowed him to open his heart to all of God’s creations. Vanier showed love when he noticed that Eric a handicapped man was much like him. Even though, Eric was blind, deaf and broken his desired to be loved was much like Vanier’s. He understood that love isn’t just physical in nature, but it’s about entering into the covenant with the
