Jean Piaget
Jean Piaget ( August, 9th 1896- September 6th 1908), on the most notorious developmental theorist. He is well known for his work on cognitive development. His work was mostly based on the observation of his three children. Piaget all about how kids make sense of the world around them and attribute meaning to objects as they are growing up. He breaks it down into stages. In this psychology class I had the privilege to study about Piaget and how his work is still relevant today. I will attemp to explore Piaget's stages of cognitive development: Sensorimotor, Preoperational, Concrete Operational, and formal Operational Stage.
Sensorimotor is the first stage. It goes from birth to two years old. During this stage, the child is using his senses, and his motor skill to make sense of the world. The child will start grabbing stuff, interact with object to figure them out. It is the main reason why the will put everything in his mouth, that's his way of figuring the object out. The child does not understand object permanence yet. He doesn't get if you hide his toy, the toy still exist. The kid still lacked the ability to perform basic logical operation. This explains why a five years old will think the taller glass with a smaller radius has more has more water, than wider glass after pouring the same amount of liquid in both container in front of him. The child is not able to use logic yet. He just assimilate taller and more. Therefore, the liquid that appears taller is more, until the next
