Jealousy: Middle School

We walked over to the sports field and sat down on the halfway line. Just off to the right of the field was the bench that Tori and Hayden were sitting down at. I could see her looking over at us but I couldn’t read her facial expression. Jealousy? Anger? It was hard to tell. I looked back over at Selena and then I didn’t care for Tori. Selena had a calming effect on me I didn’t know what it was but when I was with her my worries just took a back seat and I enjoyed myself.

When it comes to the topic of jealousy, most of us can probably agree that it is a feeling we all experienced before whether it was in a romantic relationship or a friendship. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is the question of whether or not jealousy is inborn or learned. Whereas some are convinced that jealousy is a natural feeling, others maintain that jealousy is "the artificial result of an artificial cause" (Goldman 2). Emma Goldman, in her essay "Jealousy: Causes and a Possible Cure", argues that jealousy is not natural but an unnatural feeling. (2).…

THE CONTROVERSY OF EVOLUTIONARY JEALOUSY Jealousy is an emotion that almost every human being has experienced in her or his lifetime, it stems from the fear of being rejected, replaced, and the thoughts of comparison or competition. The notion on whether or not jealousy is more prominent in any specific gender is highly controversial. Although it is thought that women are more emotional than men, we cannot generalize that jealousy is a more feminine trait, but some researchers will suggest that genders have evolved to have more feelings of jealousy compared to the others. Jealousy may have ingrained root causes and I will be discussing the idea that certain people with certain experiences may feel more jealous than others, or that childhood…

In the poems “Medusa” by Duffy and “The Laboratory” by Browning both authors explore the theme of jealousy and its destructive nature on people and society as a whole. In Duffy’s poem “Medusa” she critiques society on its treatment towards women, demonstrating how those without beauty are only corrupted with jealousy and how this behavior has survived through the ages. While Duffy focuses on the impacts of jealousy on the individual Browning looks towards its impacts on society, and its power to twist good people into those who would do anything for personal gain. Browning portrays the speaker as deceptive and bent on revenge. As the speaker observes the poison being made she “(gazes) thro’ ….…

Almost instantly, Stacie recognized her jealousy for what it was and why. The conclusion seen as both unpalatable and undignified made her ashamed of herself, and she said as much to Arlen. By contrast, her husband’s reaction showed having more to do with distaste than jealousy, so he shared his own opinion. His nature always was and continues guarded, almost secretive. He loathes sharing his background or personal story with anyone other than Stacie, much less the world.…

Our high school has a reputation of being academic driven, being the top school in our district our students are often under a lot of pressure to do well. They derived a mindset that focused on always receiving a high grade and not enjoying high school for what it is. This toxic mentality can only become detrimental to a student’s psychological health, causing breakdowns and unwanted stress. To alleviate this I joined the Associated Student Body for my high school, I wanted to break school culture and have my peers flourish in a better environment which demonstrates students should be top priority, not just their test scores. While apart of ASB I learned how to work under pressure, meet deadlines and handle criticism.…
