Young love does exist, love is confusing, no matter what you age is. It’s a distraction from what we really want. It makes people lie, cheat themselves to get what they want. The play The Crucible by Arthur Miller takes place in Salem, Massachusetts, in 1692. The book starts out with girls dancing around a fire, Abigail one of the girls who drank chicken blood to kill Elizabeth Proctor, John Proctors wife. John and Abby had a past, from there past abby still likes John. Since Abigail is motivated by jealousy, her decisions to kill Elizabeth for John and lies creates tension between them in the end of the play.
Jealousy motivates Abigail to do things to get John, her intentions are to try to split them up. One thing is to talk to John and aim

“You did, you did! You drank a charm to kill John Proctor's wife! You drank the charm to kill Goody Proctor!” says betty (pg. 19). After betty says this Abigail slaps Betty across the face and says “Shut it! Now shut it!” (pg.19). All of these choice were made by jealousy, Abigail's envy was so strong towards John that she is willing to try anything. Abby thought if she charmed chicken blood it would kill Elizabeth. When Betty blurts out that Abigail tried to terminate Elizabeth she quickly hit Betty so she couldn't talk and Abby could cover it up with a lie. Elizabeth and John were both accused of witchcraft and were put in jail. Abby had done her job because soon Elizabeth would be hung for witchcraft, but also John confessed to their affair. There was a lot of strain on Abby at this point. ”Excellency, I think they aboard a ship.” (pg. 126). “I cannot think they would run off except they fear to keep in Salem anymore.” says Parris (pg. 127). Parris is exactly right, she is scared to be in Salem. Abigail's name was blackened. She didn't look good, she was a liar and everyone knew she wanted Goody Procter dead because John confessed. It was time for her to get out of there before she got accused too and she is to blame for most of the accusations. By all of Abby’s action created a great amount of tension at the end and made her flourish off before she got in
