EMILIA
But jealous souls will not be answered so.
They are not ever jealous for the cause,
But jealous for they’re jealous. It is a monster

DESDEMONA
Heaven keep the monster from Othello’s mind! (Act.3 scene 4, line 143-151)
Emilia in this quote reminds Desdemona that sometimes there’s no reason for jealousy, but that it is just what we are all born with. Emilia suspects that the cause of Othello being angry could be because he was jealous of her. She recognizes the way Othello acted because Emilia has had experience with Iago being jealous when he had suspicions that Othello was sleeping with her. But Othello’s actions started small and built up into aggression. He was subtle about the emotions he was feeling at first but then he becomes so desperate for the truth and gets caught up in his imagination that he tries to force answers out of others such as Emilia and Desdemona herself. He ends up with no additional proof than the ones he has gotten from Iago. The reason Othello continues to believe Iago, the man who has been making all these false accusations, is because Othello was an insecure man and after Iago pointed out the imperfections of their marriage and of Othello’s age and looks, he was easily influenced. It is simple for a man to believe in the bad than the good. Sometimes even though a person does well all their life, the one negative mark is the one they always remember. At the end, it gets to a final point where Othello murders Desdemona as an honour killing but after being told the truth by Emilia and Iago, Othello is distraught. After her death, his emotions of jealousy and anger towards her disappeared and transform into feelings of guilt and remorse. Then he faces the reality of the situation and what he has done. All the problems that felt unsolvable were solved for him after her death. Othello was carried about with Iago’s lies and did not take into considerations
