Jealousy In Nico And Vinz's Song 'Am I Wrong'

Improved Essays
My assertion from Waldo is “Envy is ignorance.” I believe this means that if people envy everyone, like celebrities and millionaires they are ignoring their own individuality and their own talents which is wrong. They worry more about the person they are envying than they do about themselves causing them not to reach their full potential. My fact to support this is people like my friends want to be like Drake, or my dad wants be rich like Bill Gates, but in reality we know they can’t be them so they should just be themselves.

My second fact comes from pop culture. The song called “Am I wrong” by Nico and Vinz talks about how people today are always envying everybody. In the song it says “I ain’t trying to do what everybody else doing. Just cause everybody doin what they

He committed these heinous crimes all because he was envious of men who had luck with women. He said “ I will kill them all and make them suffer just as they have made me suffer.” This is an extreme case of jealousy but the point is that jealousy can eat you up inside and make you act and do stupid things that eventually don’t help you but hinder you and put you behind in life.
My 5th fact is the definition of envy which is “a feeling of discontented or resentful longing aroused by someone else's possessions, qualities, or luck.” now why would someone want to be like this obsessing over someone, saying “I wish I had his/her money.” or “I wish I had his/her looks” you should be content with who you are and love yourself no matter what, because if you get too caught up in someone else you become more like them and lose your own individuality which is arguably one of the worst things you can lose.
So follow your own path because in the end it’s your path you're taking not someone else's, so enjoy yourself and who you are because you're not anyone else you're you. So go and be

On the surface, envy seems to be one of the deadly vices that many believe is very clear cut. Julie Barnhill states in her article ‘The Comparison Trap’, “every day, everywhere, from every age bracket, and even despite our faith in Jesus Christ, we size each other up, comparing supposed weaknesses and trying to make ourselves feel better by ignoring or brushing off one another” (Barnhill, 2004). When looking at envy this way it seems that this vice is a superficial, unimportant part of life that we just need to deal with. A survey conducted in 2008-2009 asked respondents to rate what they believed to be the deadliest sin to be and envy was rated last with 0% by all respondents, male and female (Capps & Haupt, 2011). Rebecca DeYoung states…

In The Conquest of Happiness by Bertrand Russell, he states that his purpose for writing this piece is to simply suggest a cure for the day-to-day unhappiness from which most people in civilized countries commonly suffer (23-24). In order for one to be able to reach happiness, however, one must first realize certain things that can bring about unhappiness. In the text, Russell states that a key element that often brings one unhappiness is envy. In this paper, I would like to further gaze upon the envy Russell speaks of.…

Wealth has been perceived as the ultimate goal of the American dream. Americans have let the standard of wealth get in the way of more important things in life. Wealth can consume your thoughts of the definition of true love and life itself. The focus of wealth can cloud your mind to block the reality that is right in front of you. The focus of wealth can also keep you living in a façade that only ends in confusion.…

On the surface everything looked and seemed great who wouldn’t want to be well liked, and rich? Well inside Richard Cory was hurting he was lonely and unfulfilled.…

Last December, I was on my twin bed sitting by my window, blasting to Lady Gaga, when I came to the realization that I was never really me. The identity of the timid, smart Hispanic girl I had fabricated to please my English teachers in high school was not who I was. There are numerous amounts of people in the world who spend the rest of their lives not knowing who they really are, and a bigger quantity of people who hide their true selves; I was one of the few percentage who lived in denial of their sexual orientation. My whole life I rejected the possibility of fancying the opposite sex because of the environment I grew up in. In 6th grade when I was 11 years old, I was jealous of how much one of my female friends would pay attention to our…

However, everybody has the opportunity to be wealthy and to achieve anything they want if they use their inner great powers. I truly believe that the choices we make will determine our own opportunities which in reality will affect our own lifestyle. It is often said that teenagers begin discovering themselves in high school, but I did the opposite- I lost myself. The source of my pleasure and delight shifted from books to parties, writing to boys, and video-games to my social life. Something within me desperately craved to be normal- to no longer be the girl that gets harassed and ostracized for being an “appalling nerd” and because of this, vital aspects of my personality began to change and I morphed into an entirely different person. Through this journey, I learned that my self-hate was a catalyst for self-love and appreciation. Having always been considered an unusual girl in the eyes of my peers, I'd never been truly comfortable in my skin.…

Many people say jealousy is the big green monster, but when it comes to green, the monster of greed is the biggest of them all. Wealth is universal; everyone has some kind of wealth, whether it be of the soul or of power and money, but how people handle it is what determines how other people view them. In Charles Dickens’s novel, Great Expectations, he deals with many social issues, some of which include wealth, money, and greed. Some people may say that because Pip’s expectations are to procure money and wealth, Dickens puts a premium on how wealth and money affect people’s life positively, but in Great Expectations, it is quite the contrary. Dickens argues that wealth and money corrupt people, but bestowing it upon others is a sign of integrity,…
