“Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot” is a short story written by Robert Olen Butler revolves around a jealous husband who starts off in a cage in a pet store in Houston, reincarnated as a parrot. The narrator's former wife and supposed new lover end up buying him . Despite his new bird form he is still jealous of her new lover, sparked by her previous affairs when they were married. Through living in his cage and bird toys he becomes more birdlike and becomes less jealous although his human inadequacies still pose a problem .
Through developing characters, Butler enforces a motif of communication and jealousy. As a parrot the narrator perfectly shows his inadequate personality“…the kind of guy that I always sensed her eyes moving to
