Jea Clan Of The Cave Bear: A Literary Analysis

This assignment presented a bit of a challenge, as it has been slightly over three decades since being a young teen. Also, since books were a significant portion of my life growing up and I was an advanced reader, it remains nearly impossible to isolate, which of the life altering books I read, at which stages of my life. Gone with the Wind, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, To Kill a Mockingbird, Little Women, Diary of Anne Frank, Westmark, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Island of the Blue Dolphins; it seems this list could continue forever, each beloved, tattered book still has a home on my bookcase and in my heart, and have their effect on my life and personal perspective. Although it may be possible I read it slightly later in my teen years, I finally settled on …show more content…
Set during the period where Cro-Magnons and Neanderthals co-existed it begins with an earthquake shattering young Ayla’s carefree life as a child as it leads to the loss of her parents, a significant life-threatening injury from a cave lion, and aimless wandering. Discovered and ultimately adopted by a Neanderthal clan, ruled by their traditions and group memories, she struggles to find the balance between acclimating and her natural tendencies, which dramatically conflict with her adoptive family. Finding acceptance becomes especially problematic, as her blue-eyed, blonde appearance, sound making capability and critical thinking, creative mind where considered highly unattractive by clan members, especially the men. Additionally, she continually discovered situations and tasks where, when told women can’t do that, she, in fact, did and also performed superiorly to the men. Born as a Cro-Magnon, or “Others” as her clan refers to them, there stands a conflict between nature and nurture aspects of growing up and developing individual

Unlike the literature I am required to read during the school year, the books that I read for pleasure are more focused on issues that can relate to one's actual life. The books I read for pleasure are more of a release. For example, I read "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel to get a better view on the idea of intangible belief and dry factuality. I enjoyed "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury because it provided a new perspective on the idea of censorship. I also read "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "Of Mice and Men" in order to receive valuable insight on the idea of loss of innocence.…

Thinking back as far as I can, my favorite book was The Velveteen Rabbit. I have very few memories of this book except every time I read it I would cry at certain parts of it. I recall crying because the rabbit wanted to be loved by a little boy so that he could become real, only to be thrown away and realize being real isn't something you are but instead something you feel. The book brings back feeling from when I have felt similar to the rabbit, wondering about how to become something you aren't and having to come to the realization that you can only be what you are intended to be. The book made ma rehash feelings because I have struggled finding where I belong much like the…

From the day I was big enough to hold a book in my hands I’ve been drawn to the seemingly magical qualities they possess, from the suspenseful plotlines to the loveable characters. The ability to travel out of my normal life into the amazing world of whatever novel I am reading is especially wonderful when real life seems stressful or bleak, which happens often enough in these fabulous teenage years. During the summer I go to the library or the bookstore and scour the shelves for books I haven’t read yet, then leave with stacks at a time. While my dad and sister enjoy the great outdoors, I sit alone on the couch, or on the deck, or on a tube in the pool, engrossed in the adventures and romances unfolding before my eyes. Sometimes I immerse…

Peef The Christmas Bear and Disney’s Princess collection are part of my earliest memories of beginning to read. Whenever I recall these two books I remember my brother and I. We both cherished this book to the point of ripped, thinned pages and a decaying spine. Additionally, I was captivated by the disney princesses and I revisit my childhood self through the stories of Disney Princesses.. I also look to a book that has shaped my parent’s lives which is Love in the time of Cholera. This book is one my parents bonded over it was a gift my Dad gave to my Mom early on in their relationship, and it sits on my family bookshelf to this day.…

Two books have been inspirational pavers in how I see the world and how I want to improve it. These books are very different in the content that they portray but similar in their themes of perception. The first book that has developed me as a person is “The Great Gatsby.” A second book is “To Kill A Mockingbird.” Without these books the evolvement of my understandings would be weaker than they are now.…

My initial experience with being a reader began with a Dr. Seuss book when I was a very young boy, a colorful book with walking-talking cats and dogs, treehouses, and a party. I am not incredibly confident that I indeed am able of correctly recalling the details of the book that got read to me or by me when no one else would just about every day for what might have been a whole year or just a few short months of obsession, either way the memory of reading that Dr. Seuss book stuck in such a way that it is my first recalled memory of being an active reader, of thinking about and considering the content and characters of a book. This book and many others from those early days were the catalysts that founded my later passion for literature. My…

I’ve always loved reading, and throughout elementary school I would read obsessively. I made sure to read any chance I got. I’d read on the subway on the way from school and back, in class during free time, while walking down the street with my book in one hand and my father’s fingers in the other, and at home before bed. My favorite books (which I still have copies of in my bookcase) were The Trumpet of the Swan, Molly Moon’s Incredible Book of Hypnotism, The Phantom Tollbooth, The Witches (pretty much anything Roald Dahl), Charlotte’s Web, and many others. I remember that in 4th Grade we were allowed to take books we were reading home.…

It’s exciting plot and meaningful themes led me to see reading in a whole new light. I realized that fiction is not only useful for entertainment, but also for learning about the world. With this revolutionary state of mind, I sought out books such as Lord of the Flies and 1984. Just last year, I read Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, which once again proved to me that novels are nearly as useful for learning about the world and developing one’s character as nonfiction books. With this new perspective in mind, I am excited to discover more books to once again captivate me and consume my…
