Jcu Reflection

While at JBU I hope that I can be an encouragement to others to dig deeper into God's word. Throughout high school I have noticed a large amount of people who may attend church on sunday but I can not tell during the school week that they are in fact christians. This is a reminder to me that I am always representing God and Christianity whenever and wherever I am. Because of this I have been involved in starting a few prayer groups over the years to help encourage and bring my brothers and sisters in Christ together as a way to encourage one another. One thing I find encouraging about JBU is the student led worship service I attended while on my visit. The speaker opened up to everyone about her struggle with drugs. Since my visit I have often

I could tell how invested she becomes in her clients and really wants them to accomplish their goals. I am currently in a research lab with Doctor Abby Reitman here at Old Dominion University and our research focus in on alcohol abuse and I am also certified in alcohol intervention. This interview just encouraged me to continue to strive to help people who are at their worse. My ultimate career goal is to be a guidance counselor and I feel that is important to become informed of what substance abuse looks like so that in the case I come across a child who perhaps is struggling in school because they have a parent that abuses substances I would be able to talk to the child and hopefully recognize the problem right away. Understanding those who are struggling with substance abuse is also important because substance abuse can effect so many other psychological…

In the last five years, I have worked as a CNA, an LVN at a nursing home and clinic, and an RN in the CVICU. All of these experiences have greatly contributed to my solid nursing foundation. As a CNA, I enjoyed the direct interaction and knowing my patients on a personal level. As an LVN, I handled up to 35 patients while supervising the CNAs. I also performed wound care for up to 100 patients when I worked as a Wound Care Nurse.…

In my research, I was directed to a blog and article about this teacher in Florida and her Jehovah's Witness student. The incident took place on September 11, 2013, and it was over the Pledge of Allegiance. A fourth-grade Jehovah's Witness boy was standing for the pledge, but his hand was not on his heart. In front of the class, his teacher, Anne Daigle-McDonald, come up to the boy, and forcefully put his on his heart. Being a teacher, Daigle-McDonald was using the boy "disobedience" as a lesson.…

In 2016, Bethany Baptist Church celebrates eighty-four years of ministry in the Highlands area of Louisville. The church’s peak membership of more than 1,100 people occurred in the 1970’s, during the ministry of the senior pastor with the longest tenure at Bethany—a tenure of twenty-four years. From 1986 to 2010, the church saw five senior pastors come and go, with an average pastoral tenure of less than four years. At the time of my call to serve as senior pastor in 2011, much work had recently been done to ensure that membership rolls were up to date and accurate. The church’s membership stood at approximately 230 people, with an average attendance of 105 people in Sunday morning worship services.…

I asked Jonathan what he thought about the Christian environment and other things that were bothering me. He was refreshingly blatant, I asked him why he chose to come here and he said it really was about the scholarships. He even shared his testimony and I was able to share that I wasn’t a Christian at that time while other admissions officers automatically assumed that I was. So this kind of real conversation really aided my change of heart towards this school.…

Short Term 12 was a very interesting movie. It had hints of being realistic, but with aspects where you knew it was a movie. It’s about a group of workers who work in a foster care residential facility setting. The main character, Grace, deals with her own personal struggles while she supervises the children at the facility. I have a short bit of experience at a facility like Short Term 12 in some aspects; I can see where parts of the movie are realistic and where are some are an exaggeration because it is a movie.…

My overall experience at True Bible was one that I will always remember and keep close to my heart. I have never really exposed myself to people who are in a different position in their lives than I have been in. At my time at the church it has opened my eyes to see that the word of the lord can have different meanings for all of us. And those who are really struggling are doing their hardest to get out of the situation they are in by following the word and advice of God. Not only is the church a spiritual place, but also a community of friends and family, advisors, and counsel to help one find their way.…

As I described the actual incident in detail, a young man who was down, let depression set in and he started drinking loss all hope took his eyes off of Christ and put it on his situation. I know that God loves him just as he loves me, I need to do all I can to counsel him. There were some difficult challenge and I am determined to work hard with this situation professionally, because there are some examples of human behavior that can cause you to lose faith in Christ. The step I needed next is critical thinking, an appraisal of the event or problem that has presented as challenging or contradictory is prepared. A critical thinking technique underlying beliefs, values, assumptions and some behavior.…
