JC continuously exhibits a positive mindset. He is always the first one to volunteer help, has many friends, and works hard through any challenge presented. He is extremely eager to participate and help others. Before I can even ask for a volunteer for help, JC has his hand in air. JC is reflective and proactive about his school work. On a few occasions after reflecting on his classwork, he has asked to come upstairs during lunch for extra support or work time. This is an example of JC taking responsibility for his learning. I would like JC to continue being reflective and proactive about his learning.

JC shows an avid interest in reading. He tends to gravitate towards series books such as Horrible Harry or Marvin Redpost. His gravitation toward series books is an example of being a reflective learner because series books help support his comprehension work because the character remain the same and the plotline is slightly different. Early on in the year, JC would write a few lines about an idea and move on to another idea. Now he has increased his writing volume about one idea. He shows an understanding about the genre of writing. I want to continue to work on increasing his independence during writing workshop. At times, JC benefits from verbally rehearsing his writing. On several occasions during the narrative unit we set up time for JC to share his thoughts about writing with myself, class intern, or writing partner. I noticed that this help JC clarify his thoughts and elaborate on his writing. His realistic fiction piece went from just naming who the character was and what was happening to a more developed plotline with more details. It’s critical to extend work on structure and elaboration within opinion writing. One way to remind JC about structure and elaboration during opinion writing is by using the asking him to double

Secondly, while creating my writing piece I was reminded how to properly format and structure as well as choose better use of language. Every writing proposal I was presented with had a certain format and structure. For example, the way I would set up a paper explaining a problem versus the way I would set up an argument piece are very different. My use of language though this course has developed by creating sentences that flow nice and smooth. Finally, revising drafts and receiving feedback from my teacher and classmates has helped for the most part.…

After completing the reading, we discussed the chapters and what we liked about them and what we wish we could change if we were the authors. Then, I guided him through his Socratic Seminar worksheet to complete the assigned homework, which was creating questions that he would ask his group mates the following day. I provided Ville with a variety of sentence frames to help guide him through the creating of the questions. While he struggled to think of questions for each category, I helped by reminding him of questions that he had while he was reading the text during our Think Aloud reading. All in all, I provided Ville with a variety of strategies to assist with his instruction and lots of general encouragement to help him progress through the reading and the written assignment.…

I had to figure out how to execute certain strategies and learn from my mistakes. The in-class activities allowed for me to learn these new skills from peers and implement them into my new writing process. Rhetorical analysis of Stephen King’s, “Reading to Write” Novelist Stephen King branches off in this piece, to orchestrate the correlation between reading and writing, and to answer the question of if the two skills are related. He bases these claims off of his own personal experience as an author. The article is published at a high point of his career, now having enough respect as an author to instruct others on the craft. King’s purpose is to instruct the reader, more specifically, young writers. He wishes to inform them of the importance of reading, and how the things you read will affect what you end up producing with your own paper and pen.…

After reading long articles such as Lu et al.’s and Henig’s together in class, I studied some strategies such as focusing on topic sentences, introduction or concluding paragraphs when I am trying to get the gist of the article. Also, I learned the importance of writing summaries because in this course, despite which genres are we working on, we always started with summary since it will help us to understand the main ideas of the articles. Personally, I also sense a change in my writing process after taking this course. Before taking this class, I tend to follow what my brain and thoughts when I write. However, after hearing so many lectures presented in class, I begin to improve my writing from the creating process: I start to care about what will readers anticipate and when writing the papers, I will go back to check the subjects of each sentence in the same paragraph to keep the topic in focus.…

Looking in between the lines These pieces we read relate to the writing process by getting students to have a better understanding and connecting with the passage. Adler writes that he wants us to read between the lines and look closely at the text we are reading. I used to underline and mark in my book a lot in highschool. I had a lot of success in my English classes when I marked up my books. It is important to think and write like Scudder, because he pays close attention to the details, looks at things from different angles, and just double checking his work.…

Reading is important to writing because it can expand your own ideas of stylistic items such as narration, metaphor, transition, voice, and more. Reading and writing is important, it is often integrated by having students write about their reading because it supports students to reflect deeper on what they read. My college experience so far is very different compared to high school because there is more work given and there are higher expectations. Therefore, my goals for this course is to demonstrate knowledge, analyze, interpreting essays, and developing ideas. One of my weaknesses is organizing my paper because, I have a difficult time not knowing how to begin my essay.…

Many elements of writing are essential in writing an academically savvy paper. Notably, on element is understanding the role of information literacy. When I write my ideas and interpretations, I try to provide both evidence and illustrations for reader to further conceptualize the ideas that I have made. As I continue to incorporate these two strategies into my writing, I will be able to further back my point of view, show the reader that I grasp the concept and provide a basis of where my ideas are coming…
