The University Jazz Ensemble II is directed by Jerry Tolson. The assistant conductors are Arabo Bey and Jake Daniels. The crowed loved when Professor Tolson talked about how to bring a crowed to the performance, he bribes his students with bonus points. When the directors talk and interact with the audience during performances, it makes the performances much more enjoyable. It gives the audience time to take in the music they just heard and learn a little more about the jazz ensemble. My favorite song of the night was a 1938-2008 song called, “Povo” by Freddie Hubbard and arranged by Erik Morales. This was my favorite because it sounded like a more modern song and an easy song to dance to! If more jazz performances were like this one song, I would go all of the time. This song woke me up and was very upbeat. I liked that we got to see the two assistant conductors perform since they are going to be doing this on a daily basis. They did a very good job. I also like that that some of the songs were chords from other songs. I obviously did not notice because I am not up on my jazz. I found it interesting that if you do not use the melody of a song you are mixing chords into, you are okay with the copyright
