Jazz Autobiography

As long as I can remember, my life has been surrounded by music. Since birth, my mother has played jazz. In the car, around the house, I was surrounded. As a small child, I was delighted when my mom bought a piano for our house, and I randomly pressed keys on the piano until I stumbled across a soothing sound. At the age of 9, I picked up a clarinet. As anyone would imagine, a fourth grader picking up an instrument for the first time, I didn't sound too great, but after weeks of my bands 6 a.m. practices, I began to improve steadily. I knew from then on, I would push myself to become the best musician I could possibly be. Moving into sixth grade, I watched the jazz band practice every morning. My first time seeing the inner workings of jazz, and I instantly fell in love. I was amazed, they could play astounding cords without looking at the music itself. I dreamed of being in the same positions they were in, with other great musicians creating music, so I learned to play the trumpet, and by the next year, I was. Time flew by, and by the age of 17, I had played in CMEA festivals, charity events, statewide jazz competitions in both California and Nevada, Honor bands, and in the Kennedy Center. …show more content…
Music has brought out a creative aspect in myself I couldn’t have seen otherwise. The endless combination of chords, rhythms, and harmonies which could be turned into a masterpiece. Looking at any other concept in the same way I looked at music, I could see many more solutions than I could before, whether it be in math, English, or any other problem coming across my path. Each problem is made of different variables, which could be put together in assorted ways, some ways becoming more melodic than others. The string of struggles in life had become much clearer as I connected music with the rest of my
