Jayden Henery sat in his old, rickety, plastic green chair doing his math homework. “What is the meaning of this stupid crap,” Jayden screamed. He heard a bark of a dog outside and stared out his bedroom window looking out at the night sky of San Diego, thinking why he can’t be grown up right this instant, because then he can run away from this stupid nightmare. Then Jayden looked back at his desk and down on his family picture, at least when he had an actual family, he looked at himself with his baby brown eyes and his perfect dark brown hair, thinking why couldn’t I look better. Then his mother, Catherine Henery, came to the left of him holding him in her long arms. Her beautiful purple dress, her smooth black hair if only she is not in …show more content…
“Jayden and also before you watch anything we don’t want you to freak out, we know how to handle things like this, you don’t need to worry about anything, and one more thing there will be some graphical violence in this video so please don’t get scared.” Officer Chucky told Jayden. Officer Chucky switched on his laptop and flashed the screen in front of Jayden. Jayden saw his dad brutally getting shot many times in the chest. Jayden, for the first time in many years, felt a tear coming down his cheek. He waited until the video finished, he sat there ready to break in to a full break out of tears. Jayden sprint to his room and slammed the door shut. Before the door even shut, he ran to his bed and face planted himself right into the pillow. He heard mumbling outside of his door, he couldn’t even take in what was happening, how he could be 12 years old and have both his parents’ dead. Dead, the word stuck in Jayden’s mind like a piece of gum stuck to the bottom of a school desk. 3 hours past, Jayden’s pillow was basically a sack of water. He was still in his room, the police officers were still mumbling downstairs. Jayden finally got the courage to go downstairs and …show more content…

Jayden looked inside the car, his eyes stay stuck on the TV the whole time watching his favorite show, “The Big Bang Theory”. He watched one episode before turning off the TV and thinking of himself. One idea came right to his mind of running away. Jayden thought and thought until out of nowhere he said in his mind, I’m running away. He still thought it was a bad idea, until he finalized it when he said he would take some money from his Aunt and Uncle and run away. Once they finally got there Jayden had finished his whole plan. Jayden got out of the car, taking his bags out himself. He couldn’t even see the house yet. Jayden walked and walked on one drive way until he reached a mansion the size of Six Flags. He was still walking, sticking with his plan. Jayden stealthy walked inside, he turned around and saw Driver Steve leaning on the limo smoking a cigar. Jayden walked inside, the first thing he saw were stairs, and a huge chandelier. He sprinted up the stairs. It looked like no one was home so he was fine. He ran into what looked like a master bedroom, he walked to the left corner of the bedroom and saw a

The novel Beloved by Toni Morrison emphasizes the need for community in order for a society to evolve and move forward from a difficult history. It is impossible for the community to evolve, sustain, and survive without its members working continuously in a structured formation in which the members support each other. In the novel, the absence of support from their community poses a significant challenge for the characters to progress from the haunting memories of slavery. This absence results in the lack of self-affirmation, isolation, and makes it impossible for the characters to develop their own independent identity. The cohesion of the African American community of Cincinnati functions as a foundation for the characters to develop a true…
