In her own description of her married life Jaya says: A pair of bullocks yoked together ... a clever phrase, but can it substitute for the reality. This image suggests that two human beings are forced together without any choice of their own.

In the absence of her usual domestic routine she examines her past and the different roles that she had played during these years as a dutiful, loyal wife, and a tireless mother having no status of her own. The alienation at Dadar flat shatters her psyche and triggers the process of thinking.Her fears and insecurities are replaced by confidence which is a vital ingredient of happiness in the life of a human being. Jaya is revaluating herself and now wants to choose her own way.She is now conscious ofher will. At last Jaya realizes that she has to make a choice of her own to assert her individuality.
With Mohan’s disappearance, she experiences a fine quivering in her abdomen, which has always been for her prelude to a panic.There is no Kamat now to assure her of her significance.
Mohan sends a telegram informing her that all is well and he will be back soon. Their son Rahul is also found out and it seems that all the confusions are sorted out. But he tries to analyse himself and reality as well. There is a definite change in his behaviour after self-realisation. He adjusts himself to live in Dadar flat which he has hated for not being comfortable and in good location.
She decided to put her life with Mohan on a new footing. “If Mohan returns, I thought if only Rahul and Rati came back, we can begin living a fresh”
