Before he met Damon Dash and Kareem Burke Jay Z was selling his CD’s out of the trunk of his car. In 1996 Jay Z, Damon Dash and Kareem Burke created Roc-A-Fella Records. He released his music through his own label and started to create a name for himself as Jay Z also a name for his record label at the same time. As he released his albums through Roc-A-Fella Records he was offered a position as CEO and President of Def Jam Records which was Roc-A-Fella Records overseer. Jay Z took the position which gave him more power than his partners Damon Dash and Kareem Burke over Roc-A-Fella Records. His partners demanded more power in Roc-A-Fella Records, but Jay Z refused to allow that to happen. Eventually Jay Z separated from Damon Dash and Kareem Burke which those two went out and created Dame Dash Music
