Jay Leno Monologue Analysis

If ever there was an idea custom-made for a Jay Leno monologue, this was it: Jay Leno being athletic and having great eating habits. Isn't that like eating with no concerns of becoming fat ? Whatever happened to exercising and eating healthy to stay in good shape?
I happen to sympathize with Leno for the reason that ever since I was little I've been horrible with sports so I always bailed out from any kinds of sports, though, perhaps because I was gaining wait, I decided to get educated on the side effects of being overweight and I made some changes in my life by working out often and eating

In the speech, Phil Davison uses the fourth canon of Rhetoric (Delivery) clearly. He started the speech with good loud volume. He addressed his audiences clearly and introduced himself in a bold manner. He filled the room with his strong voice and covered the room. On October 13, at the auditorium in Whitman College, I went to go see writer and civil rights activist Shaun King. Shaun King’s lecture surrounded Civil Rights and the Black Lives Matter movement. Shaun King brought up several intellectual philosophical questions to the audience, such as “If humans are getting steadily getting better than why are than why are there 102 unarmed African Americans killed last year?”, which he compared to 1902, when 102 African Americans were lynched. King described human’s progression life peaks and valleys on a line graph. King then brought a line graph that started out as an increase, then showed a dip, and then showed the line increasing again.…

Joseph McCarthy and Margaret Chase Smith were both Republican Senators that had strong opinions about communism. Even though they were both anti-communism, their opinions on communism in the USA were completely opposite of one another. In Senator McCarthy’s Lincoln Day speech to the Republican Women’s Club of Wheeling, West Virginia, he talked about how he thought his fellow senators needed to realize that communism is a quickly rising issue, while Senator Smith refutes McCarthy in her “Declaration of Conscience” speech by writing about how she felt that her fellow Republicans were shaming and labeling anyone that was a little bit different or spoke their mind. McCarthy begins his speech by mentioning Abraham Lincoln and how he yearned for…

One of the most important parts of the civil rights movement was to be able to give a compelling speech that encourages the people to act and fight for what is right. One of the key speeches of the civil rights movement was John Lewis’s speech during the march in Washington on August 28th 1968 because of his way of persuading the audience. Although he was asked to make adjustments to his already powerful speech at the March on Washington, John Lewis uses rhetorical appeals to make his argument strong and persuasive. He uses emotion to show the horrors of what is occurring, logic to convey the reasons why there needs to be a change, and his credibility to show his involvement in the civil rights movement. First of all, Lewis was able to make his argument compelling by his use of emotion, or pathos.…

Bush’s speech comforted the devastated nation by telling us acts of heroism and by telling us that we were going to get the men who did it. He wanted to comfort the nation because we were all affected by the tragedy of September 11th. He knew that we were confused about who did this and why anyone would ever do this. He comforted us by saying that the world was with us, supporting us and that we would never forget our nation’s national anthem playing at places such as Buckingham Palace, the streets of Paris and Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate. Knowing that the world’s prayers and support was with us reminded us that the entire world felt for us in the face of this tragedy.…

Facts are essential to the foundation of his argument, therefore including them makes his essay effective. Not only does the inclusion of facts appeal to the reader’s logic, but also speaks to Harris’ credibility and knowledge of the issue. Harris explains to the reader the effect of society’s pressure on celebrities by using specific examples from celebrities’ lives. In one of the examples Harris describes the diet of some celebrities as “a wedge of iceberg lettuce, a repast as frugal as former model Cleo Glyde’s green grape diet: three for breakfast, two for snacks, and six for binges” (839). Using known celebrity facts as well as general statistics about Americans such as, “two out of three Americans are overweight and an estimated sixty million, or 20 percent of the population, are obese” (840) creates a sense of credibility around what he is saying.…

However there is one voice that stands out the most and that would be a man’s voice that stated, “Kids are obese for two reasons. They have voracious appetites and they don’t exercise enough.” After that statement, Dr. Mark Hyman came on to the screen to tell people that it seemed that the food industry was sending the message that it was the consumers fault that they were fat and they just needed to exercise more and eat less. The saying “eat less exercise more” may not be the answer that everyone believes it to be, it seems that for more than a century people believed this saying was the answer to the epidemic in America. Especially, during the late 1980’s until the early 2000’s while everyone was joining gyms and trying to be fit the rate for obesity also went up.…

Landrieu does this to show his full support and explain why they are removing the statue. He uses a heavy and empowering tone, as well as facts and references throughout his speech to rally others into seeing and agreeing with his views. Mayor Mitch Landrieu understood that when he gave this speech, there were some things that he had to emphasize by repeating. Today I am going to talk, in very abridged form, a little bit about my experience of getting to know the amazing person who goes by the name of Cecilia Bernard, and what I have learned about her over the past three years of knowing her, which was both a fortunate and unfortunate event. Fortunate, obviously, because I got to meet her and see everything great about her. Unfortunate, though, as it took me as long as it did to meet her. What I first learned about her is that she was very open and inviting. I found this out on the way to New Orleans.…
