In the year 1925 that The Great Gatsby was published, World War I had just come to an end. The inspiration and hot wave of the American Dream evoked many people to blindly pursue success and accomplishments in life including Jay Gatsby. The definition of the American Dream is an idealism that sets opportunities for prestige, success and freedom. Gatsby is dedicated to a dream, that dream is not only the wealth that he accomplished, but rather is simply Daisy. She actually occupied everything in Gatsby that he would sacrifice his life for her. This reinforced Gatsby as a romantic hero since he makes money for the purpose to win Daisy back, hold parties at home wish that Daisy would come, he even asked Daisy at the hotel in New York City to leave Tom and be with him. Jay is even willing to take the blame on murders, he felt like Daisy needs him. However, even as such a romantic character, Daisy still left the town without even attending Gatsby’s funeral.
