Jay Gatsby Monologue

Hello I am Nick Carraway and I consider myself to be a friend of James Gatz or as I knew him, Jay Gatsby. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine myself in this position so soon. Gatsby was my neighbour and became one of my closest friends. . Gatsby was surely one mysterious guy, always throwing those extravagant parties and driving his fancy car. I remember when I first went to one of his parties; I am pretty sure that I was the only one there who was actually invited. It was so grand, all the people, the dancing, the food, and the music. It was full of so many people, yet no one knew who Gatsby was. It seemed as though everyone knew of Gatsby, he had connections everywhere and to people young and old. Gatsby had a dream, a dream that he was very determined to accomplish. Once he left to become something more successful, he saved the life of Dan Cody. Mr.Cody became Jay’s mentor for the next five years, until he unfortunately died. Gatsby from then on continued to only rise to the top. Gatsby was constantly throwing his big parties and wherever I would go, someone knew of Gatsby. Of course with fame comes rumours. He had hope that she would leave her husband for him and that they could live happily ever after. Gatsby’s false belief that the past could be repeated was hard for me to believe. Daisy was married and she had a little daughter. Yet, Gatsby was relentless and thought that I was the crazy one for my disbelief. On the bright side, Daisy did still love him and had not forgotten him. The past could still not be repeated. Especially with Daisy’s husband, Tom, in the picture; he was not going to let their relationship blossom with his wary eye. Tom got what he wanted with the relationship not going too much
