Jay Bost begins his essay on the ethics of eating meat by introducing himself as a former vegetarian. He states that he has given much thought about the ethics of eating meat. His dietary changes were all based on ethics. This is why he has returned to conscientious meat-eating after being vegetarian and vegan. Bost's ethical reasons behind abstaining from meat were obvious and clear. Nowadays, most animals are raised and killed in cruel conditions. Grain that could feed hungry people feeds farm animals instead. The need for pasture space fuels deforestation. Lastly, a sentient being must die for people to partake in the consumption of meat (Bost).
