Jasper Jones The Hanging Tree

For my movie promotion poster I decided to draw Jasper Jones tree. His tree is where he sleeps, relaxes and the place he calls home. I was debating between three taglines, Jasper Jones: The Hanging Tree, The Mysteries Of Corrigan, and The Tale Of Courage. But in the end, I decided to go with the Hanging Tree because it is the foundation of the story. There wouldn't have been a story without Laura hanging herself there. If I had to do a second movie promotion poster I would change a two things, the release date and the colors. I would change the release date to something more symbolic, maybe a date during the Vietnam war or the actual release date of the movie. I would also change the colors to something more symbolic.

Throughout the whole book, Kerman’s tone is very casual but professional at the same time. However in this sentence, Kerman used parentheses to add more information in the middle of the sentence. The sentence can go on without the extra information because it’s not important or needed. However it creates more of a visual effect for the readers to imagine how rude the prison guard was.…

Salman Khan once said, “A lion runs the fastest when he is hungry.” This quote vividly depicts how the heaviest of burdens, such as slavery and segregation, have brought forth valiant black Canadian leaders who’ve helped define our country’s diverse heritage and identity. Frederick Douglass was one of the most influential abolitionists of 19th century America. His main purpose in writing his narrative was to rebuke the romantic image of slavery in the antebellum south. For decades, southerners and northerners would create reasons for rationalizing the institution of slavery. Through his narrative, Douglass convinces Americans of the true conditions of slavery by including characters that contradict the romantic image of slavery, proving that slaves are intellectually capable, and explaining why slaves are disloyal. Douglass includes many figures from his early life in his narrative that portray an accurate depiction of the horrific life of a slave.…

In our modern era, there have been many well-written books, however, what criteria must a book contain in order to be considered a true classic for generations upon generations? For a book to be considered a timeless classic, it must contain three-dimensional, realistic characters with gradual character development, as well as a magnificent use of sensory details. Without these key aspects to a story that make it relatable and interesting, it cannot be remembered for decades to come. Due to its three-dimensional, realistic characters who develop throughout the story, one of which being Jem and the maturity he acquires, as well as its brilliant use of descriptive sensory details, Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird is definitely a true, timeless classic.…

In The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave, escaped slave Frederick Douglass recounts his experiences in bondage and his understanding of the institution of slavery. In one anecdote, Douglass discusses the free time granted to slaves by masters during Christmas and New Years. He explains that many masters encouraged slaves to spend this time on drunken antics.. Douglass asserts that, while professedly a token of goodwill, the off-time given to slaves during the winter holiday was actually used to reinforce slave obedience. The holiday, he posits, was a vessel through which slave masters could deliver a perverted image of freedom and expose slaves as a class that enjoyed crass entertainment and could easily revert…

The Narrative of The Life of Fredrick Douglass effectively shows readers the hardships slaves had to live with on the road to freedom. From the faulty idea of a “romantic southern image” to the unfortunate slave-on-slave betrayal, Douglass debunks these ideas and blames them for the inability to improve the slave’s well-being and the societal ignorance regarding southern conditions. Several epiphanies, such as his new knowledge of the north and realization of slavery’s malice, motivated Douglass and filled his heart with determination to focus his train of thought towards freedom. Despite the many difficulties, he made it there. Douglass rebukes the romantic image of slavery by using vivid imagery to describe the horrors of his everyday situations…

What intrigued most about 1984 is the symbolism it held. This is why I wanted to recreate a book cover that held a great amount of symbolism and a visual art piece that channels the many themes explored within the text. When writing 1984, I believe George Orwell’s style of writing and point in conveying actions were quite distinctive. His syntax gave off a tone of hopelessness and warning. A slow and fearful journey we follow Winston through that book…
