It was once said that “When you live for a strong purpose, then hardwork is not an option. It is a necessity.” In a world that everything is instant, some of us may not know what is the value of money. Today, the confidence of this generation when it comes to achieving their goals is left unconcerned. Many people think that if they have money, if you are wealthy enough and have studied from a prestigious university chances are you can have better future than those who did not even finished college. But this is far from Jaqueline’s story. After watching the video of “Rattan sa pusod ng Sierra Madre” my deepest admiration for the 14-year old girl is beyond amazing. Jaqueline is undoubtedly diligent, generous and selfless.
My heart fell after watching the short video of “Rattan sa pusod ng Sierra Madre”. Jaqueline , at the very young age, is working to provide the needs of her family especially to support the educational needs of her siblings. She works hard every day just to save money for her sister’s upcoming graduation. Harvesting Rattan is not an easy work to do especially she is still underage to work. This work is a dangerous since you will climb up the mountain, cut the vines which also has spikes that can prick on your skin, carry them down the mountain, dry the vines under the sun then sell it. Think about it, climbing up a mountain is an enough thought for you to think that it is already a danger yet she still works every day to harvest rattan for her sister’s purpose.
