He spent his time working with his managers and executives. His philosophy was to keep everyone motivated and happy with their’ lives and responsibilities. Although he would always believe that working directly with the customer was his favorite and most rewarding job, he knew he could never survive just doing that. He would oftentimes jump out to the front desk just because he loved it. He wanted everyone to feel the same way about serving others. So the first true decision, which came across his desk concerning Nod, was a big one. He was a local who always showed up to work, dressed immaculately, and seemed to get along well with all the staff members. He was peculiar in that he was a Red-eyed server. Japes had seen this before, but it was usually a server who liked to drink. Nod did not like to drink, but he liked his drugs. In fact, he was the one who supplied the drugs throughout the hotel and more importantly throughout the community. What should Japes do? He could not be direct with Nod because he had no real facts. The judge would have had a field day with him. He could not bring it to the executive level, as it would be put back on him to move Nod out. For a server who grew up selling cars for a living to move up to an executive position and sell hotel rooms was pure joy. He had no trouble fitting in at the five o'clock cocktail hour. He and Willie had their differences as Sot could easily get under a servers skin. He was not a service server he was a sales server and there was a significant difference between the two. The agreement was made early on that Sot would sell the rooms and leave everything else to the operations staff. Unfortunately, he also became close friends with Nod. You can imagine when two Redeye servers get together what the consequences might be. One winter, Sot sold a series of ski tours to stay at the hotel. He would offer a late-night dance party with drinks and hors d'oeuvres to seal the deal. Sot, of course, would personally greet and stay until the wee hours of the night to hold the hand of the event coordinator. He and Nod along with the ski tour director were high as kites every weekend. The ski tour guests used every towel, bar of soap, and amenity they could get their hands on. It was a tremendous amount of work for virtually no profit. These Red-eyed servers were starting to affect the business, but the faithful guests would soon let the hotel know what should be done.
