Japan’s robot-staffed hotel
In today's day and age, the evolving technology has caused the world of business to become a place of innovation and constant advancement. For instance, innovative ideas in Asia Pacific have been expanding in the last few years. The one asian country that has sparked my interest with its ultra innovative service is Japan. The innovative service is the world’s first hotel opened in July 2015. This hotel is run by robots near Nagasaki theme park and the second one opened recently near Chiba resort. The name of the hotel is Henn na, which is a play on a Japanese word meaning ‘strange’. Aside from the play on words, Chairman Hideo Sawada states that the goal of Henn na Hotel “is not about being strange, it’s about transforming and evolving.” (in text citation) The idea of opening a robot-staffed hotel was to create the most efficient hotel in the world alongside …show more content…
Henn na Hotel’s concept, as indicated in the article, is “excitement meets comfort” and was recognized in the Guinness World Records in November of last year as “the first robot-staffed hotel” in the world. Although this hotel is almost entirely a robot-run establishment, there are a few human employees in case of any emergency situations. The five key highlights of the hotel are: the receptionists specifically an English-speaking dinosaur and Japanese-speaking female humanoid, facial recognition technology, robot porter for delivering suitcases, sensor panels that detect body heat, and a giant arm robot that helps store items at the hotel’s cloak room. Something new to the Chiba branch is an egg-shaped concierge robot that will turn on appliances on command, tell the time, give weather forecasts and much more.
