The Nonverbal Communication System of the Japanese Culture in Comparison to Some Asian Cultures
INTRODUCTION
Understanding various cultures requires a huge appreciation of cultural diversities. It is very essential to have at least, a background of a certain cultural society to avoid misunderstandings which might occur between you and another person or a group which practices a different way of thinking and actuations than you do since each culture has a certain belief on what is to be considered accepted or on what is to be considered as taboo or offensive.
This paper focuses on the use of body language in the Japanese culture with high regards to its nonverbal communication system. Initially, I will be defining what nonverbal communication is and through the scope of this research, I will be discussing about the Japanese kinesics and Japan's cultural modality including the explanation of their common signs and gestures. Although the nonverbal communication system does not always have a fixed definition, it increases the flexibility of interpreting the messages that other people sends. Furthermore, it is also significant for conveying emotions.
JAPANESE KINESICS
Predominantly, Japan's culture is an embodiment of a wealthy array of cultural sensibility; and such cultural themes denote harmony, hierarchy, social balance, empathy, humility, formality, and group orientations (Samovar, Porter, & McDaniel, 1994).
