The constant headlines of controversy surrounding war apologies and shrines are excessive, with a former Japanese ambassador quoted as far as saying that, “China’s excessive attachment to ‘historical memory issues’ has created negative feelings among the Japanese. Chinese hatred against the Japanese, widely shown through the internet, has created bad images of China; even if there are some legitimate reasons for their feelings” (Dinnie). Several eras have defined their relationship, with each being categorized by the complex social relations of their politicians. For the two countries to maintain a strong, bilateral relationship that benefits both; it is imperative that they assure this next era to be based on mutual interest instead. China must acknowledge the role Japan has played its development, and Japan needs to stay true to their constitution and remain a pacifist country; regardless of the more assertive economical nature its citizens desire. The time has come for these two countries to put the past behind them, and maintain a more honest and personal dialogue, as the development of both their countries depends on
