“I want to want the white house with the picket fence covered with climbing roses, but I just don’t.” Janis Joplin was an amazing Rock & Roll singer. She was out of control and many people loved her for that. Although she was wild for her fans, she hid her personal problems well. The height of her career was the downfall of herself. Her early life would be characterized more or less of being an outcast. Janis Joplin was born on January 19, 1943, in Port Arthur Texas. Her high school years are unlike most girls who she grew up with. She was heavyset with acne, and she mainly hung out with guys. In 1960 she left home to attend Lamar State College of Technology (Angel 21). After awhile she returned home to attend Port Arthur Business College. She then moved to California and got a job as a key punch operator. She met a man on her bus ride home, and then skipped her stop to go to LA with him. She then moved to LA (Angel 22). During the middle stages of her life she was trying to figure out what she wanted to do. While in LA Janis struggled to support herself, so December of 1961 she moved back to …show more content…
In 1969, she joined Kozmic Blues. The band was short lived and she left in 1970. She returned to drugs and joined a new band Full-Tilt Boogie. She began dating Kris Kristofferson and he wrote “Me & Bobby McGee” for her, it became her most famous song (Angel 82-87). During this time her drinking increased. Her album Pearl Became more popular than she intended. On October 3, she popped a needle of heroin, and she fell and hit the table. The next day, her band mates began to worry that she hadn't shown up to the recording studio. John Byrne Cooke found her dead from accidental overdose of heroin, she was 27 (Angel 90-94). In January 19, 1995, she was inducted in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall Of Fame. She proved that women could sing the blues and she paved the way for many female rockstars (Angel
