Unit 2 Essay – Janet Chow Case Study Case Study Three showcases an inexperienced manager, Janet Chow, struggling to earn a critical authoritative presence with her direct reports. Janet was a highly regarded at her company for being a team player. Janet seems to respond to praise and recognition of a job well done by perpetuating successful outcomes on her assigned projects. It appears that Janet is motivated by intrinsic stimulations, reflected in her continuous successful work accomplishments that appear to have no extrinsic motivators spurring her efforts. Intrinsic motivation is satisfaction and fulfillment achieved by simply accomplishing one’s set goal or task. Christine Young (2017) explains, “One who derives pleasure from the task itself or experiences a sense of competence or self-determination is said to be intrinsically motivated” (pg. 1)
The combination of Janet’s respected attitude, strong work ethic, and ideal colleague brought about the opportunity for Janet to step into her first management position. Janet has limited insight into the expectations of her new management

However, the name Janet is more suited to American customs. Taking her name into consideration I perceive that Janet has a blended heritage with a combination of Chinese and American influence. Janet’s culture combination can impact her current management and motivation vacuum.
