3 me, Literature and the written word are humankind's greatest accomplishment, which is why I am
4 determined to devote my life to its study. I am not content with simply reading a text, as I
5 have a hunger to learn everything I can about what I read - how it was written; why it was
6 written; what is its place in Literature as a whole.
7 In the words of Jane Yolen, "Literature is a textually transmitted disease, normally

29 For my EPQ I looked to identify the most controversial literary text published between the
30 19th and 21th century. In doing this I analysed ten literary texts that are labelled
31 controversial these books were selected carefully after extensive research was carried out.
32 After reading and analysing each text for myself, I carried out a field study and ranked them
33 from most controversial to least controversial and explained my reasoning for their position
34 on that scale in my final report. This project enabled me to expand on various skills. I gave
35 myself strict deadlines and kept to them, it was a lot of pressure, but I thrived with every
36 minute and wouldn't hesitate in carrying out a similar project like this again.
37 As an inquisitive, eager student and enthusiastic reader, I have demonstrated the ability to
38 pursue this knowledge through my own hard work. Being presented the opportunity to bring
39 together this knowledge, and enthusiasm within a new educational environment would be a
40 delightful opportunity and an adventure I can't wait to begin. I believe that university
