Jane Long was the “Mother of Texas” because the birth of her child on Bolivar Peninsula. Jane long also was one of the first Anglo American’s in Texas. If you want to find out some more stuff about her just keep reading. Jane Long was born on July 23, 1798 in Charles County, Maryland. When she was born, she was one of ten children. She went to school at an academy and had a slave at a very young age. Jane’s dad died when she was less than one years old. In 1811 Jane moved to Mississippi with her mother. One year following, her mother died and Jane was orphaned at 15. In early 1815 Jane met James Long. By May of 1815 Jane and James were married and by the end of the year they had their first child.
