Jane long was an orphan at the age of forteen, and was a widow at the age of twenty four,
Jane wilkins long lived a long and hard life. But her heroic decisions woned her the name of ‘mother of texas.

Jane long was born on july 23, 1798, in charles county, maryland.
Her father died when she was a year old. In 1811 she moved with her mother to the mississippi territory. Her mother soon died a year later, so she moved in with her sister in natchez.

In the early 1815 jane soon met james long. He was a physician come to natchez to help with the war over new orleans. By the may of that year they got married and by november they had their first child.
By 1820 jane had joined her husband at ballivor point. Where they soon established an outpost in effort to free texans from mexican overtake.

Along with a twelve year old servant and her six year old daughter, jane. Stubbornly survived on dwelling supplies of corn meal, salted fish and oysters scavenging from the bay. Janes ordeal ended the following march when a friend of her husband's persuaded her to leave bolivar point. And after a few years, she began a remarkable comeback.
