Discovery: Expand Your Horizons

The wonder and curiosity of discovery is often a forefront of people’s mind trying to find the answers to existential questions a “who am I, why am I here.”However, our wide world of wonder often narrows as time moves forward when we grow a sense of life and the hope of discovering the curiosity of the world becomes unrealistic.I'm Jet Le renowned director of a documentary series “Limitless” where a small group and I perform activities allowing people to achieve their possibilities. My success has made me question why there is a lack of ambition to discover the opportunities of life.

This question drew my attention to contemporary indigenous playwright Jane Harrison and her play Rainbow and End(2006) and the

However, she discovers her voice which drives her to become a dominant influence on aboriginal people in having a better life and allows her to grow as a person. The opening scene and the final scene juxtaposed together increased my understanding of Gladys growth when Harrison explained” the dream sequence used in the as Gladys hands the flowers to the Queen evokes her eagerness to belong into white society. This juxtaposes the petition scene as the use of rhetorical question “Mrs. Windsor, would you live a Rumbalara?” which challenges the Queen and emphasizes that she is more concerned defending their rights of her people and reflects her individual growth from the beginning of the play till the end.”The use of the pause as Dolly “Why don’t you fix your own house? If you know what I mean? Highlights the key as to which she takes action to have better housing conditions. The use of exclamation and rhetorical question used by Nan “My Gladys!,did you hear her? Coupled with she’s practically hugging the radio” emphasizes …show more content…
So it is evident that the connection between Gladys and April Wheeler is apparent as they both have strong desires to achieve self-growth.In particular, April demonstrates that discovery can lead to a re-evaluation of an individuals perspective about others and themselves.Based in 1950’s Connecticut April has the epiphany in the middle of the film that the life she is living is no good for her and is ready for a change which establishes her desires to move to Paris and becoming a secretary while Frank stayed at home which conflicted the views of the time. This is particularly inspiring to me in creating my documentaries as she isn’t afraid of the barriers that prevented her and is opening herself to a world of discovery which is what my series aims to do.I had a skype interview with director Sam Mendes to discuss how he used film techniques to convey these concepts.Mendes was quick to note that the change from dramatic music to the use of the blissful music as she looks a the photo of her husband in Paris epitomizes the newfound hope for a better life.I pondered on his use of dialogue “people are alive there not like here” reinforces the lack of confidence in their current life and the possibilities away in Paris. This followed by the edits between Frank speaking to April about Paris and her looking at the photo of him emphasizes her speculating about the future possibilities of her life.Mendes added that The change in lighting establishes the first step towards a brighter

Whether discovering something for the first time, or rediscovering something, it is our attitude towards the process of discovery that is most important, so is our attitude towards the process of discovery really most important? Well, the growth of an individual' is developed by their experiences and response to discovery or rediscovery, which can shape someone’s beliefs and values which is something I learnt from my engagement within texts Go Back To Where You Came From and Distant Lands. For this chapter what I found very interesting was the experiment done by Jane Elliott. While watching her video I found myself becoming frustrated with the way she was treating the blue-eyed people. I am very aware of racial issues that colored people are experiencing in our society today. I am not defending racial discrimination, but I don’t think its fair to say that white people aren’t discriminated against like black people are. Its not fair to judge a whole race of people based on one persons actions.…

However, it’s not the curious acts that cause the death of billions of slaves, the forever unperfect of lives of the human race, or the demise of the doctor himself. It’s the greed to obtain nature 's knowledge that ultimately causes everyone’s downfall. Curiosity can easily turn to an obsessive search for knowledge. Columbus’ curiosity was fulfilled when his exploration didn’t find a route to India but found North America.…

I have always know what I should do but now I can look back and label my choices and understand why I made the decisions I did. My statement is this I subscribe the rule of Hard Universalism, the theory of psychological egoism and because we are always selfish I believe utilitarianism represents the base desires of personhood. Everyone believes their desire is for the greater good and the right choice because they are selfish, these theories go hand in hand and dictate many of the actions of people in this world as well as the cravings we strive to rise above.…
