Moreover, Goodall toured a medical research laboratory and realized that baby chimps located there were not allowed to interact with each other as they were contained in small boxes. Her encounter with a chimp hiding in the back of a box and rocking back and forth in its cage led her to advocate for labs where chimps could interact and be contained in larger cages if research was necessary. Jane not only noticed the maltreatment of laboratory chimps, she persisted in making her demands for improvement known. Her determination led researchers to comply to her suggestions even if they were not originally in support of the changes (Welty, "300 Days"). Goodall possessed a large array of knowledge regarding chimpanzee behavior from her individual studies, and she …show more content…
People never know their true potential unless they attempt to make a difference and educate themselves in a particular subject that fascinates them. Without passion, there is no drive to better injustices or make a new discovery that could benefit generations of people. However, if everyone applies themselves in an effort to deepen their knowledge about a topic that they brings them joy, and implement their curiosity into a drive to bring about positive change, the world will become a more innovative place to live. The worst thing that people can do is display indifference. Everybody possesses various interests or skills that others do not, and these differences can drive society forward. If passions are ignored, developments that may be beneficial to solving future problems will never be established. As Farley stated, we all have lives involved in our normal community of learning for education (Farley, 2006, p. 7), and this is where we apply our wisdom. When we go out into the world, the ability to make a mark in time, not necessarily as a popular figure in history, but simply doing good deeds that will help others, like conserving energy, even without them knowing, will produce benefits in changing the world for the better and also changing our own selves for the better by feeling good inside with generativity, which will lead to a life with satisfaction instead of…

Hunt for the Wilderpeople Film Taika Waititi ‘Hunt for the Wilderpeople’ is about a young troubled adolescent boy, named Ricky. After years of being thrown around countless foster homes at the age of 13 years old, Ricky feels he has found himself a stable family environment. But with a disturbance in the family and his backyard being hundreds of miles worth of native bush, troubles arise and he finds himself running from authorities, as they are on a manhunt after suspecting Ricky has been kidnapped. Two main themes which stood out to me as a Maori viewer living between my two parents homes were how stereotypical barriers create an image for people in today’s society and how ‘family’ influence a child’s development growing up. I felt close to Ricky as he is the perfect portrayal of a young Maori boy..…

Sometimes, no matter how experienced, or prepared, an explorer may be, nature can still get the best of the explorer and lead them into a fatal error. A young adventurer named Christopher McCandless is a prime example of this statement, however, he had no experience and went into his adventure very unprepared. Christopher McCandless’s memory is kept alive by the biography, Into the Wild, written by Jon Krakauer. In Krakauer’s book, Into the Wild, he recalls the brief life of Christopher McCandless as he embarks on a great crusade to fulfill his lifelong dream of living in the Alaskan bush. A few weeks after hiking into the bush, however, McCandless was found dead in bus 142 by the Sushana River by a hunting party.…

The world is a vast place, filled with numerous individuals, all characterized by unique qualities. John Stuart Mill, a 19th century writer, philosopher, and businessman who placed great importance on those who find and offer new ideas, theorized that the two primary qualities in life were originality and genius. An original person is one who is independent of all others and is unique in all that they do, and someone who displays genius is unusually intelligent and creative. In “Genius and Originality”, Mill suggests that these qualities are indispensable in society since they prevent life and knowledge from becoming static, and without them, society cannot progress. He proposes that conformity is preventing genius and originality from flourishing, while freedom allows them to thrive.…
