“The smugglers have abandoned us. We’re alone in the middle of the ocean, a boatful of starving, wailing people and three scared sailors. This is it, I think. It can’t get worse than this” I’m standing in the middle of a cyclone there is debris from the boat flying everywhere I’m on the floor scared for my life. I look across and see Bibi struggling to get towards me
“Get down,” I scream Bibi finally drops to the floor. So together we start crawling towards the door that leads you inside the asylum seeker boat where all the sailors already are. I
Pull the door open with all my strength and leaped inside me and Bibi are finally safe. I’m still very worried about out boat in this storm but I can’t tell Bibi that it will make her even more scared.

“Miami isn’t too far; it is ninety-five miles away at the most…” Maya’s cherubic features made it hard to fabricate an excuse for wanting to stay in Cuba. I knew that staying here, staying in poverty, predisposed me to a life of misery and malnourishment. The journey would be perilous, which made me wonder if it was worth it. I longed to voice my dissent and convince her to condone the actions of the corrupt government, however I knew the time to liberate had come. My patience for living life as nothing more than a pitiful pauper, salvaging and pilfering for my next meal was beyond exhausted.…

Instead of allowing individuality and expression, men tended to suppress the freedom and personalities of females. To this day still, the lack of female empowerment in a patriarchal society takes prevalence.…

"Reader, I married him” (Bronte 517). These well known and short words are the first line we read in the closing chapter of Jane Eyre. As the reader we are addressed 37 times from the beginning of Chapter 11 to Chapter 38, Jane constantly addresses the reader to reassure us that she is not just blindly telling a story, but rather she is telling this story to a specific audience. As this story is about someone’s life, there is an essence of Jane telling us this story of her life in her old age, however, there is controversy around when and to whom she is telling this story to. Jane throughout the novel is confiding in the reader for why she made these decisions, which is why she is making an argument to the reader throughout the novel.…
